Dominic Sarkar, a 56-year-old executive chef, was found shot to death in his bed at his Charleston Way residence in Fremont, California, on October 8, 2018. Investigators say the killing was the result of a planned murder-for-hire plot motivated by financial gain: Maria Moore was the primary beneficiary on life insurance policies worth a total of $800,000.
Police say a witness heard gunshots that night and saw a man fleeing on a bicycle. Surveillance footage and financial records reportedly tied Marvel Salvant to activity near Sarkar’s home on the night of the shooting and to meetings with Moore in the days before the murder. Authorities allege Moore wired money to Salvant and that Salvant lay in wait to shoot Sarkar multiple times.
Both Moore and Salvant were arrested and charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances for financial gain and lying in wait. If anyone knew Sarkar or has information about the events on October 8, 2018, please come forward.
