Deputy Mark V. Stasyuk, 27, of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department was killed on September 17, 2018, while responding to a disturbance call at an auto parts store in Rancho Cordova, California. The initial report that day did not indicate the suspect was armed, but upon arrival the suspect opened fire. Deputy Stasyuk was critically wounded, taken to UC Davis Medical Center, and died there despite emergency care. His partner, Officer Julie Robertson, was also injured and survived.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Anton Lemon Moore, who was on probation for a prior gun-related offense. After the first shooting Moore fled on foot and engaged deputies in another exchange of gunfire before being apprehended; he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. Moore was charged with Stasyuk’s murder and with attempted murder of other officers. Memorials and tributes were established at the scene and at law enforcement facilities to honor Deputy Stasyuk.

If anyone witnessed the events at the auto parts store or has information that could help clarify what happened that day, please share details.
