Angela Lynne McConnell, 26, of Shasta Lake, California, was found dead on September 7, 2018, alongside her boyfriend Michael Thomas Bingham Jr., 31. The pair were discovered in a transient camp in a wooded area on the northern outskirts of Shasta Lake. Both sustained fatal gunshot wounds and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office classified the incident as a double homicide.

McConnell was a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and had wanted to become a nurse and a journalist. Her mother, Tammy Carpenter, has been publicly pushing for continued awareness and justice. A billboard showing McConnell’s photo and announcing a $30,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest was placed near the murder site, funded by the Hoopa Valley Tribe and Secret Witness of Shasta County.

The Major Crimes Unit conducted autopsies confirming gunshot wounds, but despite investigations and community attention tied to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement, no suspects are in custody and the case remains unsolved.
