Cheyenne Sara Watkins was 23 and a resident of Tehachapi, California, when her body was found on June 1, 2018, in a home near Kid Place and Westwood Boulevard. The Kern County Coroner’s Office determined she died of a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a homicide. Homicide detectives took over the investigation.
Investigators identified Alejandro Andres Sanchez as the primary suspect. Court documents say Sanchez had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Watkins and allegedly told multiple people he had killed her. Witnesses reported seeing Sanchez with a gun the night of the killing and said he sought help disposing of the weapon. In January 2020 a Superior Court judge declared a mistrial after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict on first-degree murder; Sanchez remained in custody awaiting a retrial set for February 24, 2020.
Are there readers who knew Cheyenne or who have information that could help clarify what happened that night?
