Nino Munoz, 41, was fatally shot around midnight on May 12, 2018, on the porch of a home in the 300 block of East Carlton Street in Ontario, California. Police say Munoz and another man, identified as 39-year-old Alex Garcia of Ontario, argued before the shooting and that witnesses reported the two men knew each other.

Authorities issued a murder warrant for Garcia after he fled the scene and crossed into Mexico. Garcia was arrested on May 24, 2018, while attempting to re-enter California at the San Diego border and was booked on a murder charge with bail set at $1 million. He was held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga while the Ontario Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force continued their investigation.
