Michael Garcia-Salem, 22, of Half Moon Bay, was killed in a shooting on February 25, 2018, outside the Hillside Market at 1165 Hillside Blvd in Broadmoor, an unincorporated area of San Mateo County near Daly City. He and 21-year-old Vanessa Guillory of San Francisco were identified as the two victims; Guillory was pronounced dead at the scene and Garcia-Salem was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died. A third man was wounded and hospitalized and expected to survive.
Investigators said the victims and the suspects knew each other. Authorities arrested 20-year-old Devin Lum of South San Francisco on charges that included two counts of murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm. Oakland resident Guardado Duff, 23, was booked on accessory murder charges. Both were held without bail at Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. A makeshift memorial with candles and flowers appeared outside the market as friends and community members paid their respects.
