Vanessa Guillory, 21, was killed in a targeted shooting outside the Hillside Market in Broadmoor, Daly City, on February 25, 2018. The shooting happened about 8:40 p.m. after an argument; Vanessa and 22-year-old Michael Garcia-Salem of Half Moon Bay were both shot and died. A third man was wounded and survived.

Investigators reported the parties knew each other, indicating the attack was not random. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the two victims. In the days after the shooting, authorities arrested Devin Lum, 20, of South San Francisco, on two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of discharging a weapon. Guardado Duff, 23, of Oakland, was arrested on accessory murder charges; both were held without bail at Maguire Correctional Facility. A third man was also detained; his identity and charges were not immediately disclosed.
