Henry Lee Mortensen, 40, of Klamath River, California, was found fatally shot in the chest at a residence on Barkhouse Creek Road on the evening of February 12, 2018. Deputies from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office and medical personnel responded; Mortensen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified his father, 76-year-old Stanley Mortensen, as the primary suspect. Stanley had called the sheriff’s office earlier that day reporting problems with his son. Authorities said the pair had a strained relationship with ongoing conflicts, and Stanley told police he acted in self-defense, concerned for his safety because of Henry’s past run-ins with the law.
Stanley was arrested and charged with murder, but those charges were dropped on February 15, 2018, after investigators said evidence suggested the shooting might have been self-defense. The investigation remained open pending autopsy results and further evidence collection.
Did anyone in the Klamath River area know the Mortensens or have information about that February 2018 evening?
