Saul Perez Pacheco was 28 when he was found with a gunshot wound on the side of Alderpoint Road in Garberville, California, on January 1, 2018. A passerby discovered him and he was taken to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office identified Pacheco as the victim and opened an investigation, calling the circumstances suspicious.

Investigators have not identified suspects or made arrests, and despite extensive efforts the case remains unsolved. Authorities have asked the public for information about Pacheco’s activities and connections in Humboldt County to help generate leads. It is unknown whether the region’s noted link between some homicides and the marijuana industry had any bearing on this shooting.
