Nicole Florencia Smith, 32, was killed in a drive-by shooting at her sister’s home on the Manchester Rancheria in Manchester, California, on November 19, 2017. Gunfire struck the house in the early morning; Nicole was hit, bled to death in front of family members including her 10-year-old son, and suffered a seizure before she died.

A 28-year-old man named Roman Soto was initially arrested as a person of interest and has a criminal history that includes assault with a deadly weapon and evasion. He was released after authorities said there was insufficient evidence linking him to Nicole’s murder; no further arrests have been announced and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office lists the investigation as open.
