On October 29, 2017, 48-year-old Bradley Christian MacHugh of Discovery Bay, California, was fatally shot during a confrontation about 12:43 a.m. on the 1700 block of Wilde Drive, a street near his home. Deputies found him in the street with multiple gunshot wounds; neighbors and emergency responders were unable to save him.
Investigators say the dispute began after Bradley MacHugh confronted occupants of two vehicles — a red Mitsubishi Eclipse and a matte gray Ford Mustang — that had been driving recklessly through the neighborhood. The encounter escalated from words to a physical fight and an unknown person produced a firearm and shot MacHugh. Witnesses described the occupants as males and one female, late teens or early twenties, appearing Hispanic or Asian. The vehicles fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Detectives identified 19-year-old Brayan Zavala of Antioch as a primary suspect; he turned himself in on November 1, 2017, and was booked on a murder charge. Neighbors remembered MacHugh as a devoted family man who tried to protect his community. If anyone saw the vehicles or the occupants that night, please share what was observed.
