Does anyone else remember the atmosphere in Salinas around the time Rutilio and his cousin Fidencio were killed? It seemed like there was a cloud over the whole community, and many of us felt anxious just going about our daily routines. It's hard to imagine what their families must have gone through, knowing it was a premeditated attack by the infamous 'murder squad.' I've always believed community safety should be a top priority, but it wasn’t until tragedies like this that it truly hit home. Hopeful that the dismantling of those gangs really helped shift the balance so those days are behind us, but we can't forget the cost it took to get there. Wishing peace for all victims and their families.
