Joseph James Joey Strickland, 28, was found dead behind a silo on River Road in Chico, California, on March 16, 2017. His death was ruled a homicide. Born October 22, 1988, in San Diego, Joey moved to Chico with his family in 1989 and was the youngest of six children. He left behind his parents, siblings and four children and was remembered as playful, humorous and close to his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed drawing, wrestling, football and video games.
Investigators from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office worked the case with Glenn County law enforcement because of Joey’s connections in both areas. Detectives interviewed several people, including an ex-girlfriend who had a restraining order against him; many details were kept confidential while leads were developed. The circumstances before his death included sporadic contact with family and reports that he had been living with a friend he met through a mutual acquaintance.
Does anyone who knew Joey or who was in the River Road area around mid-March 2017 have information that could help?
