Gloria Pillay was 58 when she was killed at her Irvine home on Crystal Circle on January 31, 2017. Known as LuLu, she owned the Lady Lulu boutique in downtown Palm Springs and was active in the local art scene. Her 35-year-old son Arlyn Pillay was also found dead at the scene.

Police arrested Gloria’s older son, Nolan Pillay, 37 at the time, at the home without incident. He was charged with two counts of murder, with special-circumstance allegations for multiple murders and gun-use enhancements. Nolan pleaded not guilty and was held without bail; his attorney has said he has schizophrenia and severe mental health issues, and the defense has indicated an insanity plea may be considered. Motive has not been established.
