Santiago Avalos Sanchez, 28, was killed in a daylight double shooting on December 12, 2016, on North Rodeo Gulch Road at Soquel Drive in Soquel, California. A black Honda driven by the victims had crashed into a road sign and blood was found next to the vehicle. Maria Ponce Rocha, 32, of Watsonville, was critically wounded and survived after surgery.
Jose Luis Ramos, 31, of Watsonville, was arrested after a 12-hour manhunt. He was found with methamphetamine and a pipe used for smoking meth and was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder; bail was set at $2 million. Investigators recovered a wrapped item near Ramos that forensic teams were examining to see if it was the murder weapon. Motive was not immediately clear, though jealousy was suggested because Ramos was reportedly Rocha’s ex-husband.
Sanchez was a father of two and his death deeply affected his family and the Soquel community. Does anyone have information about the shooting, the victims, or the events leading up to that afternoon?
