Tyson Eduardo Claros was 20 when he was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Highway 255 between Peninsula Drive and Pacific Avenue in Manila, California, on December 12, 2016. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation.
Investigators say Claros had been driving two passengers from Eureka to McKinleyville: a friend identified as Jane Doe and 18-year-old Tamara Nicole Thomson. Immediately after, a second car arrived and four people exited: Cesar Octavio Valenzuela, Brandon James Mitchell, Catherine Fode, and Hector Godoy-Standley. Valenzuela is said to have ordered Jane Doe out at gunpoint while Mitchell allegedly confronted Claros and shot him five times. Thomson and Valenzuela then fled in Jane Doe’s car; Mitchell, Godoy-Standley, and Fode left in the other vehicle.
Authorities arrested Thomson and Valenzuela soon after; Mitchell surrendered on December 15, 2016, and Godoy-Standley and Fode turned themselves in on December 18, 2016. The suspects were accused of acting on a belief that Claros had molested Mitchell and Fode’s young daughter, an allegation that was investigated but not substantiated. The victim’s family expressed grief and dissatisfaction with the legal outcomes.
Did anyone in the area know Tyson or have information about his movements that day?
