Gloria Montes Jr., 41, of Pico Rivera, California, died on December 10, 2016, after having been shot in the head while asleep in her bedroom in 2011. She survived the initial attack and was well enough to testify at a preliminary hearing in 2012, but remained in a vegetative state until her death in 2016. According to the case account, the shooting was gang-related: members of the Pico Nuevo street gang targeted her because one of them believed she had cooperated with police in a 2002 robbery that led to his imprisonment. A witness reported hearing the shooter call her nickname, Gogo, before firing several shots into her bedroom.
Prosecutions followed: Arthur Lerma was convicted of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a felon and received a 60 years to life sentence. Michelle Caldera was convicted and sentenced to 32 years to life. A third defendant, Jose Trejo, testified against Lerma and Caldera and was sentenced to eight years in state prison. Does anyone in Pico Rivera remember Gloria or have information about the events leading up to the 2011 attack?
