On the night of November 28, 2016, 21-year-old Fremont resident Sajeel Rehman was killed in a triple shooting in the Union Landing Shopping Center parking lot in Union City during a pre-arranged drug transaction between two groups. Rehman had driven a black Lexus into the lot with two others and parked beside a gray Dodge truck occupied by three suspects identified as Travis Vales, 24, of Clayton, and Alvin Simao, 47, and Stevi Simao, 18, of Hayward. A struggle took place and Vales allegedly fired multiple shots from a high-powered rifle into the Lexus, killing Rehman instantly; two other people were wounded but survived.
Police say the three suspects attempted to flee but were stopped a short distance away and were arrested. They were charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an assault weapon, and robbery, and the case was forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. The shooting is described as the result of a drug deal gone wrong. If anyone has information about the events that night or the people involved, please come forward.
