On September 24, 2016, 39-year-old Jennifer Goodwill Yost was murdered in her Fullerton, California home. Acosta then shot Jennifer in the face in the master bedroom and fatally shot her husband, Christopher Yost, in the head as he attempted to flee. The couple’s minor children were in the house and were not harmed.
Investigators say Acosta was motivated by a desire to remove Jennifer’s 17-year-old daughter, Katlynn Goodwill Yost, from what he believed was an abusive household; Katlynn had been in contact with Acosta through social media and was part of the same furry community. Frank Sato Felix, 27, is reported to have helped Acosta obtain the shotgun and to have driven him to the house, waiting outside while the killings occurred; both men were later arrested. Both Acosta and Felix were found guilty and received life sentences.
