Salvador Duran, 25, was shot multiple times on July 31, 2016, around 9 p.m. on the 2100 block of North Main Street in Salinas, California. He was with friends when at least two males approached, produced handguns and opened fire. The shooters fled in an unknown direction; Duran was taken to a hospital and died two days later.

Police described the shooting as likely gang-related. No arrests were announced immediately after the attack, and investigators said the lack of witnesses and fear of retaliation hampered progress. The killing was recorded as the city’s 20th homicide of 2016, prompting calls from community leaders for increased patrols and measures to address gang violence.

The Salinas Police Department continued the investigation and asked anyone with information to come forward. If anyone knew Salvador, was in the area that night, or has information that could help identify the shooters, please share what is known with investigators.
