Genaro Sandoval Alaniz, 44, was killed by gunfire on July 26, 2016, in Kettleman City, California. Deputies from the Kings County Sheriff’s Office responded about 9:45 p.m. to reports of shots in the 300 and 400 blocks of Edwards Street and found his pickup truck with multiple bullet holes and a shattered rear window. Alaniz had multiple gunshot wounds; his truck had veered off the road and was lodged in a ditch in a pomegranate orchard and was still in drive when located. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Kings County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation and the Kings County Gang Task Force assisted. Detectives collected evidence and witness statements that night, but no suspects were identified immediately and the motive was unclear; authorities did not determine whether the shooting was gang-related. The office asked the public for any information to help solve the case.
Did anyone in Kettleman City that night see the pickup or notice suspicious activity on Edwards Street?
