Frank Moreno Brady, 35, was shot multiple times in the chest with a semi-automatic handgun and died at UC Irvine Medical Center after a midday shooting in the parking lot of a business at Harbor Boulevard and Trask Avenue in Garden Grove on July 18, 2016. Surveillance footage shows a gray SUV fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting.
Investigators identified Richard Adrian Joker Trevino, 40 at the time, as the primary suspect and say an argument in the parking lot preceded the shooting. A vehicle linked to Trevino was tracked into Mexico on August 19, 2016; Trevino was located in Tecate on August 22 and returned to U.S. custody, then booked on suspicion of homicide in Orange County Jail. Prosecutors say ballistic evidence tied Trevino to this shooting and to a separate Santa Ana incident that injured a 16-year-old, and a woman who admitted driving the getaway vehicle testified against him after pleading to accessory after the fact.
Defense counsel has pointed to the absence of direct eyewitness identification and questioned the incentive behind the getaway driver’s testimony. Does anyone have information about Brady’s final hours or the parking lot incident that could help clarify what happened?
