Arnulfo Bermudez Jr., 31, of Woodland, California, was killed shortly after midnight on June 29, 2016. According to reports, he was working on his vehicle in the 500 block of Community Lane near Cross Street around 12:40 a.m. when several people in a dark-colored sedan approached. As he tried to flee in his red Mustang convertible he was shot; his car then crashed into another vehicle in the 200 block of Community Lane. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at 1:17 a.m., and the Yolo County Coroner’s Office listed him as Woodland’s first homicide victim of the year.
Investigators said Bermudez had been identified as a validated member of the Sureño street gang, a characterization disputed by a family member who insisted he had no gang ties. The Yolo County Gang Task Force led the investigation. Witnesses reported seeing him working on his car and being shot while trying to escape. After a 15-month probe, Woodland police arrested a suspect, though initial reports did not name that person and did not provide a motive.
Does anyone have information about Bermudez’s movements that night or about the dark-colored sedan seen in the area?
