Beverly Polchies was 25 when she died after being brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center on the night of October 13, 1984. She had traveled from Woodstock First Nation, New Brunswick, to Old Town, Maine, with her boyfriend and another couple. Police picked her up for public intoxication and Penobscot Nation Police later drove her to the Penobscot Indian Reservation, leaving her on Route 2 in Milford at about 8:30 p.m.

Around 10:00 p.m. a small white car arrived at the emergency room with Beverly in the passenger seat; the unidentified white male driver told staff she was intoxicated and had been struck by a car, then left. Beverly died about an hour later and the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide. The man who brought her to the hospital — described as a white male, about 30 to 35 years old, slender, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches, 150–160 pounds — is considered the primary suspect.

No arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved. If anyone knew the man who dropped Beverly at the hospital or has information about her last hours, please come forward.
