Willie Mulder Jr., 29, of Richmond, California, was fatally shot on May 18, 2016, in the unincorporated area of Rodeo. The shooting occurred around noon near Mariposa and Napa avenues after multiple calls reporting gunfire to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found shell casings on the road but no immediate victims or witnesses. Mulder was later identified when he was admitted to Kaiser Medical Center in Richmond and died of his gunshot wounds before investigators could speak with him.

Investigators determined Mulder had been shot multiple times. The Sheriff’s Office appealed to the public for information and provided anonymous tip lines. Limited witnesses and few leads made the investigation challenging.
