Dominick Gonzales, 38, of Avocado Heights was shot and killed while dining at El Jalisco Café in the 13100 block of Valley Boulevard in Bassett on April 19, 2016. He was eating with three other men and had stepped outside near a patio area when witnesses say gunfire erupted; Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators reported at least two shooters and reviewed nearby surveillance footage, but chaos at the scene made identifying the gunmen difficult. Authorities said the killing was carried out after Gonzales was marked for death by members of the Mexican Mafia and orchestrated by the Canta Ranas prison gang, reportedly over perceived encroachment on territory.

Anyone who was at El Jalisco Café that evening or who has information about the shooters or the gang involvement is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers.
