Manuel Gonzalo Lopez, 43, of Hacienda Heights, California, was reported missing by family on April 9, 2016. His body was found ten days later, on April 19, 2016, by recreational shooters in a remote area of Llano along a dirt road off 233rd Street East near Highway 18. The Los Angeles County coroner identified Lopez through fingerprint analysis.
Lopez was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head and his body was in advanced decomposition, indicating he had been dead for several days before being found. Investigators said he had no known reason to be in that isolated desert area with sparse housing; the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department speculated he was taken to the remote location, but it remained unclear whether the shooting occurred there or elsewhere. No arrests or identified suspects have been reported and the case remains unsolved.
Anyone who knew Manuel, was in the Llano area in early to mid-April 2016, or has information that could help the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers is asked to come forward.
