Abigail Gasca-Chavez, 19, was murdered in Greenfield, California, on March 29, 2016. She was a mother of two young children, a four-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son, and is remembered as kindhearted and generous. Neighbors became alarmed when Abigail did not respond to calls; a neighbor found her two-year-old son crying in the backyard and her sister Aime conducted a welfare check. Inside the house Aime found Abigail’s body in a pool of blood; first responders later confirmed she had died.

Investigators reported Abigail had been shot multiple times at close range. CCTV from a nearby camera showed a black car following and cornering her on the morning of the killing and the vehicle’s driver confronting her before leaving. The driver was later identified as Ernesto Hernandez; authorities say he entered Abigail’s home through an unlocked door and waited. When Abigail and her son returned, Hernandez shot her seven times in the head and face and then fled, leaving Monterey County and traveling toward Los Angeles before ultimately leaving the country.

The case devastated the Greenfield community and left many questions for neighbors and family members still seeking answers. If anyone knew Abigail, her routines, or saw the black car that morning, please come forward with information.
