Raul Garcia Prieto, 22, was fatally shot on December 21, 2015, in Valinda, in the San Gabriel area of Los Angeles County. The shooting happened at about 7:45 p.m. on the 1200 block of Cedon Drive. Witnesses heard gunshots and saw Prieto run into a nearby studio apartment, where he collapsed; he was taken to Los Angeles County–USC Medical Center and pronounced dead about an hour later.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau found narcotics paraphernalia at the scene and note that Prieto was a member of a La Puente gang and on probation after a November arrest for possession of a controlled substance. Detectives say Prieto may have been visiting the residence and could have gotten into a fight with another individual described only as a Latino male who fled before officers arrived. No arrests have been made and there is no known eyewitness to the shooting.
