Carl Woolwine, 50, was found dead on October 13, 2015, at the Alta Sierra Ski Resort in Wofford Heights, California. He worked as a maintenance worker at the resort and was discovered buried in a shallow grave. An autopsy by the Kern County Coroner found a single gunshot wound to the head as the cause of death.

That reportedly led to a confrontation involving Woolwine, Ertz, and supervisor Bobbie Dale Rhynes. The three went to a maintenance building; shortly after, a gunshot was heard and only Rhynes and Ertz emerged. Rhynes later admitted to shooting Woolwine, saying it was accidental and he had intended to fire above Woolwine’s head. Rhynes, with help from Noble and Ertz, then buried Woolwine and moved his van.

Rhynes was charged with first-degree murder, the charge was reduced to second-degree murder, and in May 2016 Rhynes was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Noble and Ertz were arrested and charged as accessories after the fact; both pled no contest and received three years of probation.

Did anyone at the resort notice tensions between Woolwine and the others before October 13, 2015?
