Adam Kent Buchanan, 38, was found dead on September 13, 2015, at a vacation home he owned in Greenwood, California. Firefighters responded to a blaze at the property and, after extinguishing the fire, discovered the bodies of Buchanan, his fiancée Molly McAfee, and their eight-year-old son Gavin among the rubble. Severe fire damage initially obscured the cause of death, but medical examiners later found bullet wounds on all three victims, and investigators concluded they had been shot before the fire was set to destroy evidence.

Investigators focused on family dynamics during the probe. Adam owned a construction business; his 16-year-old son from a previous marriage, Nolen Buchanan, was interviewed after claiming he stayed at the primary residence the night his father, stepmother, and half-brother went to the vacation home. Authorities say inconsistencies and forensic evidence implicated Nolen. He was arrested, charged with the three murders, convicted at trial, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Does anyone have memories of the Buchanans or information about the Greenwood case that could help others follow up on this tragedy?
