James Scott, 44, of Alondra Park, California, was shot and killed on July 8, 2015. His body was found by his former girlfriend on the sidewalk near her home in the 3300 block of Marine Avenue in Gardena; the Los Angeles County coroner’s office pronounced him dead at the scene at 5:28 a.m. Scott had been released from jail the evening before after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of injuring a child’s parent and completing a sentence of probation and jail time.
Investigators say Scott returned to his ex-girlfriend’s neighborhood despite an order to stay away. The primary suspect is 67-year-old Joseph Hector Duhon of Long Beach, the father of Scott’s ex-girlfriend; authorities allege an altercation between Scott and Duhon on the sidewalk ended when Duhon shot Scott. Duhon was arrested on suspicion of murder on July 11, 2015, and was arraigned on one count of murder.
Anyone with information about that night or who knew James Scott is asked to come forward.
