Dylan Antonio Brown Jr. was 15 and a student at East Union High School when he was killed by a gunshot while visiting a friend’s house on West Yosemite Avenue in Manteca, California, on July 4, 2015. The bullet was fired into the home in the early morning; medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures but Dylan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they did not believe the shooting was gang-related and that the location appeared to have been chosen for a specific reason, though the motive remained unclear. Family and friends described Dylan as respectful and an honor student, and the community held gatherings to remember him.
