Alec Ouzounian, 40, of Rancho Santa Margarita died on May 12, 2015, after a deputy-involved shooting. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department had been called to his home on Paseo Viento near O’Neill Regional Park about an attempted suicide. They found Ouzounian with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds; during the confrontation that followed one or more deputies fired, and Ouzounian was shot. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
The shooting occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Neighbors described him as polite and quiet and said he worked from home. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation into the sequence of events and the deputies’ use of force. Ouzounian’s family later pursued legal action against the County of Orange, which resolved with a $400,000 settlement to his parents.
What can anyone who knew Alec or witnessed the incident add about what happened that afternoon?
