Thirteen-year-old Dante Romannose Jones of Klamath, California, was shot in the head on May 1, 2015, on the 100-block of Klamath Avenue. Emergency responders from the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department, Yurok Tribal Police, and the California Highway Patrol took him to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City; he was later transferred to an Oakland area hospital and died of his injuries on May 3, 2015.

A 16-year-old male, Nathan Feliz, was arrested and charged with murder. The Del Norte District Attorney charged him as an adult, alleging he personally discharged a firearm and dissuaded a witness by force or threat, both with special firearm-use allegations. Bail was denied at arraignment and the case moved through the courts.

The shooting deeply affected the Klamath community; the Del Norte County Unified School District provided counseling and support to students and staff. If anyone knew Dante or has information about the events on Klamath Avenue that night, please come forward.
