Jose Zamora, an 18-year-old from Winton, California, was killed on April 6, 2015, during a confrontation that escalated into a shootout. Upon arrival, Jose and Hernandez’s younger brothers, who were armed, confronted Salvador Medina; the shootout left both Medina and Jose Zamora dead.
The investigation formed part of Operation Red Right Hand, a Department of Justice and local law enforcement probe into violent Norteno gang activity in Merced County. Wiretaps and surveillance gathered during that operation were used at trial. On September 5, 2018, a Merced County jury found David Zamora and Jose Hernandez guilty of two counts of murder; both were sentenced to life without parole. The operation also produced multiple arrests and seizures of firearms and drugs.
What additional details does anyone have about the April 6, 2015 events or the people involved?
