Maria Lourdes Soza was a 32-year-old mother from San Francisco who died on January 27, 2015. She was struck in the head by a stray bullet during a shootout in front of her home on Revere Avenue in the Bayview district as she was returning with her three children. She was reportedly trying to protect her 3-year-old daughter when she was hit and succumbed to her injuries at the scene despite her boyfriend’s attempts to help and call for assistance.

The community left a growing memorial of flowers and candles outside her home, and family members including a 13-year-old daughter, Brianna, were seen grieving. The San Francisco Police Department released surveillance footage of a suspect vehicle and asked the public for help, but several months later the case remained unsolved. A fund was set up to help cover funeral expenses as calls for greater safety and community support followed.

If anyone saw the shooting or has information about the suspect vehicle, please share what is known with San Francisco police.
