On the evening of December 5, 2014, 41-year-old Vietnamese-American Thach Dien Thiet Duong was shot and killed outside the Golden King Café at 2650 Alum Rock Avenue in East San Jose. Surveillance video shows two Asian men approaching Duong from behind and firing multiple times; the assailants then fled and Duong was pronounced dead at the scene. The released footage captures the moments leading up to the attack but does not show the actual gunfire.

Witness descriptions list one suspect in a black hoodie with the hood up and light-colored pants, and the other in a white-and-black jacket, black shirt, black pants, and a hat. Investigators have noted possible connections to a series of four shootings from 2013 to 2016 that targeted Vietnamese-American men at or near Vietnamese cafes in San Jose, but no definitive link has been established and no arrests have been announced. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit.
