Shaun Richard Diamond was a 45-year-old Pomona Police Department officer who died on October 29, 2014, after being shot the previous day while serving a search warrant in San Gabriel. Diamond was the breach officer on a multi-agency operation targeting the Mongols Motorcycle Club at a home in the 100 block of North San Marino Avenue. As the team breached the storm door, the suspect inside opened the main door and fired a single shotgun blast that struck Diamond in the back of the neck and also injured the suspect’s father.
Diamond was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and died the following morning; he was briefly kept on life support to facilitate organ donation.
Diamond’s death prompted memorials and honors: Downtown Plaza in Pomona was renamed Diamond Plaza in February 2015, and a section of the I-10 freeway was designated the Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond Memorial Highway in October 2016. He was remembered for community outreach work, including Special Olympics events and SWAT demonstrations for school children. Does anyone have memories of Officer Diamond or information about the operation that could add detail to this account?
