Daniel Walsh was 27 and a Huntington Beach resident when he died on October 25, 2014, after an officer-involved shooting. Officers had been alerted to a dark SUV being driven recklessly and forcing other vehicles off the road. They located the vehicle and tried to stop it; a minor crash occurred near Ernest Drive and Stewart Lane. Walsh exited the SUV and walked up the driveway of a nearby residence. When officers ordered him to stop, he allegedly turned and pointed what appeared to be a gun at them. Officers fired multiple shots, and Walsh was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. that evening.
The Orange County Coroner’s Office confirmed Walsh’s identity and the cause of death. Huntington Beach police reported a handgun was recovered at the scene, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department opened the protocol investigation into the shooting to determine the circumstances, including whether Walsh had fired at officers and what his motive might have been. No arrests or charges were announced against the officers immediately, and the officer’s identity was not released.
If anyone witnessed the incident near Ernest Drive and Stewart Lane on October 25, 2014, or has information about Walsh’s actions that evening, please share what is known.
