I’ve been thinking a lot about the community events that were held in memory of Demetrious Ward after his tragic passing. It was truly moving to see how the local community came together to support his family and honor his memory. I remember attending one of the candlelight vigils, and the turnout was incredible. People from all walks of life gathered at the high school, sharing stories and memories of Demetrious while supporting one another in their grief. This really demonstrated the kind of impact he had on those around him, even at such a young age. I wonder if there are ways we could continue this sense of solidarity, perhaps by organizing yearly community events or workshops focused on fostering a safe environment for youths? It would be a meaningful way to keep his memory alive and work towards preventing future tragedies. Anyone else have thoughts or remember attending these vigils?
