On September 3, 2014, 37-year-old Angel Robin Tully was fatally shot at a property on Fieldbrook Road in Fieldbrook, California. Deputies responding to a 911 report of shots fired found Tully dead near a trailer; another victim, Harley Wayne Hammers Jr., was found across the street with severe gunshot wounds and later died at Mad River Community Hospital.

Investigators quickly identified 29-year-old Jason Michael Arreaga of Lucerne as the primary suspect. He was located and taken into custody later that night on US 101 near Loleta, charged with two counts of homicide, and held on one million dollar bail. Authorities say the shootings followed an altercation and that witnesses described drug-fueled interactions earlier in the day.

During pretrial proceedings, testimony conflicted over who fired the shots, with testimony from Shavonne Hammers, Harley Hammers’s estranged wife, and a contrary account from Arreaga.
