Nazario Barajas, 18, was fatally shot on August 17, 2014, on Georgetown Street in East Palo Alto while he was a passenger in a vehicle. The shooting was described as targeted and connected to a conflict involving a friend of one of the alleged participants.

Investigators later arrested Herson Cruz on December 29, 2014; he faced assault and accessory to murder charges and accepted a plea to lesser counts. Antonio Sotelo-Moreno fled to Mexico after the shooting and was at large for an extended period before being apprehended and returned to the United States. The violence devastated Barajas’ family and others who knew him.
