Jason Jonathan Pina, 20, of Rancho Dominguez was shot and killed on May 5, 2014 while a passenger in a sedan on South Santa Fe Avenue. The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. when a larger vehicle pulled alongside and an occupant opened fire. The sedan then struck other vehicles; a woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Pina was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m. His companion, 18-year-old Omar Maurice Williams, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department opened a homicide investigation and released sketches seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers. Despite those appeals, the case remained unsolved for some time. Few details beyond the shooting and the two victims have been released.
