Richard Trujillo Vidaurry, a 55-year-old Latino man, was shot and killed on May 7, 2013, in San Pedro, California. He was found with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head near the auto shop where he worked in the 400 block of West 5th Street. The shooting occurred early in the morning at about 8:25 a.m. as Vidaurry was about to start his day; witnesses saw a person in a dark hoodie and mask fleeing the scene shortly afterward.
Vidaurry was described as a dedicated restorer of vintage cars who lived a simple, happy life, routinely picking up breakfast from McDonald’s before heading to the shop. Investigators initially reported no clear motive and said he had no known enemies. On September 3, 2013, Kelvin Kirkpatrick, 29, and Derrick Breedlove, 41, were charged with one count of murder each; both pleaded not guilty and were held without bail, with a pre-hearing conference set for September 17, 2013.
