Monica Lisa Quan, 28, was shot to death on February 3, 2013, in Irvine, California. She and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence, were found in their car in the parking structure of their condominium complex. The couple had recently become engaged.
Investigators identified former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner as the prime suspect. Dorner had been fired from the LAPD in 2009 after making false statements against another officer. Monica’s father, Randal Quan, a former LAPD captain, had represented Dorner during his dismissal proceedings; that connection was cited as a motive tied to revenge. Dorner’s campaign of violence continued over several days, leaving additional victims, and ended on February 12, 2013, when he was located in a cabin in Big Bear Lake; the cabin burned during a standoff and his charred remains were later identified.
The case drew intense scrutiny of the LAPD, Dorner’s manifesto and its threats, and prompted internal reviews and legal actions by victims’ families. If anyone knew Monica or Keith, or has information about the events leading up to February 3, 2013, please share what you can.
