Has anyone else been following the incredible strength shown by Steven Rosalez's family in the aftermath of this nightmare? I can't even begin to imagine the pain they must be going through. During the courtroom proceedings, their resolve was so evident, especially when they gave those gut-wrenching statements about losing Steven. It was moving to see how they turned their tragedy into an urgent call to address gun violence in their community. While justice was served with the sentencing, the real victory would be ensuring this doesn’t happen to another family. How do we think communities like Pittsburg can better protect their youth from violence like this?

Has anyone else been struck by how involved Steven was in his community, despite his young age? As a teenager, he was already making such a positive impact through sports like Pony League baseball and the Pittsburg Junior Football League. It’s just so tragic that his potential was cut short because of senseless violence. I can only imagine the void this has left for his teammates and coaches who must have seen him as more than just a player, but a friend and a bright spirit on and off the field. The details about the confrontation with Short are just devastating. It's hard to comprehend how a situation could escalate so drastically. I keep thinking about how easy it seems for gun violence to shatter lives and communities. To the Rosalez family and everyone in Pittsburg, please know that there are people all over who are devastated for your loss and are keeping you in our thoughts. Let’s hope for a future where our communities are safer, and where young lives like Steven’s aren’t lost to such acts of violence.
