Lalo Padillo, 41, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds in his vehicle in North Hollywood, California, on June 15, 2012. The LAPD responded to a reported shooting and discovered Padillo’s body; investigators described the incident as a targeted attack, though the motive was unclear at the time.

The investigation collected forensic evidence and included numerous interviews, but detectives struggled with a lack of eyewitnesses and concrete leads. In 2014 two suspects with alleged gang affiliations were arrested; one was later acquitted for insufficient evidence and the other accepted a reduced sentence in a plea deal. The LAPD has kept the case open.
