Randy Lee Fannin, 62, was one of eight people killed on October 12, 2011, when an armed assailant entered Salon Meritage in Seal Beach, California, and opened fire shortly before 1:30 PM. Fannin was the owner of the salon and was among the victims shot by Scott Evans Dekraai during the attack.
The shooting was tied to a bitter custody dispute involving the shooter and his ex-wife, Michelle Marie Fournier, who was also killed. Dekraai was arrested a few blocks from the scene; authorities reported he was still armed and wearing body armor. He was charged in connection with the killings and attempts to prosecute the case led to extensive, high-profile legal proceedings.
The community responded with memorials for the victims, including Fannin, and the case raised questions about how the criminal justice system handled evidence developed while the suspect was in custody. Does anyone have personal memories of Randy Fannin or information about his life and work at the salon?
