Oscar Torres, 38, was shot to death after an argument on October 5, 2008, in the 2200 block of Mardel Avenue in Avocado Heights, California. A man produced a gun during the altercation and shot Torres multiple times; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was critically wounded and taken to a hospital. The shooter fled in a dark-colored vehicle and authorities asked the public for help identifying him.
Investigators later identified Jose Luis Saenz as the prime suspect. Saenz was described as having a long history of violent crime including murder and kidnapping and had been evading capture for years by moving between the United States and Mexico; he was placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies continued to pursue leads while the investigation remained a priority.
If anyone knew Torres, saw the shooting, or has information about the suspect or the dark-colored vehicle, please come forward.
